Youth training program conducted at Rathgama by Southern Fisheries Organization during 27-28 December. Youth of YMESOC at Galle proposed to conduct Mangrove survey around Rathgama lagoon as a collective effort of youth Movement building.
Jayamali, the animator on youth activities said at the follow up planning
meeting, “If We expect to have a better society we need to change our behaviors
while attempting to change wider societal structural changes. We need to plan
both these levels as an organization.”
Adding to this Dulip Rangajeewa, the district coordinator of SFO said, “We are continuing our efforts to build YMESOC as a strong youth Movement. This WS will be a good starting point for the launching an effective program among youth.”
The youth team raise the concern to learn journalism, social media production, home gardening and attempt to conduct community tourism programs among youth at Galle area.
The group would have a review work in February to assess the progress of the plans implementation.
An awareness program was conducted for the members of Southern Fisheries Organization in Galle to educate them about the ILO convention at the district office on 25th of June 2019. The content of the ILO convention, existing fisheries issues and important of people participation in order to ratify convention were taken into the discussion in the program. Mr. Nalaka Rosaro and Mr. Priyankara Costa facilitated the program representing National Fisheries Solidarity Movement.
